After few days monitoring my Google Adsense account, I found that there is slight decrease of earning for past days. Usually I can get almost (not all) $1.00 dollar per click, and can reach $4.00-$7.00 dollar per click but however, click was generated but the eCTM is very low, even the page impression is high. The click received was only about $0.15-$0.50.
After reviewing some of the factors, I found that the ads showing at my site are somehow does not viewing a good ads, and in short, cheap advertistment. So I asked Sifoo Google to remove the cheap ads. Indeed I have already know about Competitive Ad Filter, but however, there is somehow a trick that you can apply with it.
Do you know that you can increase up to 300% of your earnings by using Competitive Ad Filter by Google Adsense? Well, you should. Competitive Ad Filter is a tool from Google Adsense that will let you get your competitive ads out from your site. So what kind of competitive ads should you remove?
Why Should We Filter Ads?
- Some ads did not match our content, and the potential of clicks is low.
- Some advertises their site just to get visitors away from your blog to click their ads.
- Some advertisers have no content or just little content, which will physiologically affect our reader’s click activity.
- Most of all, the CPCs (Cost per click) are cheap for these kind of web site. Even you get more clicks, the adsense earning will still be low.
How to choose your Google Adsense advertiser?
You can manually select which advertiser that you want to get removed from your blog. Some tips are:
- The advertiser is likely to promote affilate links/ask you to join any pyramid/system program.
- The site design is bad, and the site owner did not own their product.
- The advertiser targetted site is full of adsense ads but with low quality content (this should be MFA site)
Think logic. If the advertised site is fully owned by the advertiser, they should pay higher right? So, look at the popular reliable advertisers. We need to avoid them and provide readers the good ads, which is good for you and your readers.
Here I provide simple method to select which site ads to be removed from your blog/site.
- Visit Google Adsense Help Center here.
- Download Adsense Preview Tool. (alternatively you can save as/download here )
- Rename the downloaded .txt file into preview.reg .
- Double click the file to install it. Click “Yes” if required.
Now that your Adsense Preview Tool is installed, now open your blog/site with Internet Explorer.

Right click to anywhere at your site and click the Google Adsense Preview Tool menu which you can see at the image below.

Okay. The next step is simple. Get used with Google Adsense Preview Tool. Tick checkboxes on ads that showed in your blog page which you found that is not a good ads, and click “Show Selected URLs”. Copy down the URL list in notepad file, which is the Unwanted URL list.
Next, go to another page of your blog (any page) and then repeat the same thing until you get a list of ads URL that you want to get removed from your blog.
Warning! : Beware NOT to click you own ads while you are doing the Google Adsense Preview Tool. You are phohibited to do so.
The last thing is to login into you Google Adsense account and follow these steps:
- Login your Google Adsense account.
- Go to “Adsense Account”>”Adsense Set Up”>”Competitive Ad Filter”
- Insert your Unwanted list into the box area.
- Click save changes.
Now all what you need is to wait and see the changes. Let me know whether this trick works ok. Until then.
