January 2009 marked the busiest time most spent in front of my workstation. It’s the time to focus on blog money making. While I was working up with my daily schedule, I gathered some tips that may be very useful of starting up your blog and where will you redirect your blog into.

Some may blog to earn money, some may only to share information, and some may just looking for online presence. But while blogging and keep blogging, what is actually the profit you will have after spending hours of time daily for this activity? And how actually will give your first dollar from blogging? Here I’ve listed down all what I’ve done to earn money via blogging.

A :  Starting up a blog – This includes:

  1. Set up what niche for your blog.
  2. Buying a domain and hosting.
  3. Installing WordPress on the hosting which will automatically create your .com blog. To shorten your time, find a web hosting with the following panel since managing, updating, and transferring your blog will be easier and faster.
    1. Cpanel control panel - Easier to manage and transfer hosting when you got problems with the provider.
    2. Fantastico – Install and update WordPress in just few click away.
  4. Selecting the most relevant theme best for your blog niche. Say no to ugly themes as blog theme is very important to give visitors and advertisers their first view.
  5. Install any relevant plugins, suchs:
    1. All In One SEO – A must WordPress plugin to be installed on your blog.
    2. Akismet – Just in case to fight SPAM attack.
    3. ExecPhp – To insert PHP/HTML codes to your blog widget
  6. Contact Form (I use Cforms III)
  7. Install widgets. All listed here is a must for me:
    1. Mybloglog – Social blogging and the same as BlogCatalog.
    2. Entrecard – Traffic exchange by gaining and buying points at subscriber’s blog.
    3. Blogcatalog – In some way, when installed, Blogcatalog will automatically insert your blog post to their site. In short, it’s an alternative to gain traffic even your blog is far far away in search engine result.
    4. Alexa Rank widget – To increase your Alexa rank. This is a must for a new blog since Alexa is the most used way by advertisers to check your blog traffic, and it’s a must.
    5. Sitemeter – This is to easily track your blog statistics, visitors, and traffics. I may choose sitemeter as registering can be done within a few seconds, and it’s reliable as your web statistic. You can also use your embedded traffic monitoring inside your web hosting Cpanel, but since you’re ‘lazy’ enough, do you have time to login to Cpanel and then go to the Awstats and other monitoring services just to check your site traffic?
  8. Create, edit and set your blog pages. This includes
    1. Home
    2. About me – Brieftly describe about yourself.
    3. Archive – For visitors to view the old blog posts.
    4. Contact me – For advertisers or visitors to contact the blog owner
    5. Link – I found some blogger does not insert the link pages, but for me, it’s a must to gain back links from others. You do not need to concern much about linking blogs with a very low Pagerank and Alexa rank, since the blog you set up just now is freshly new.

All above process should be done within an hour, and the next step is to start blogging. This includes publish, manage and edit your blog posts, to make sure your blog is keep updated with the latest information.

B :  Start Blogging

  1. Make your first quality post.
  2. Blog walking
    1. Read other blogger’s post – This to gain more idea of blogging.
    2. Leave comments
    3. Link Exchange
  3. Keep your blog updated with the very latest post. You must set up how many blog post that you want write in a week. Some may create daily post, and some may publish a blog post a time in a week. This depends on your effort to blog.
  4. Submit your site to social bookmarking site, search engine submission ( I use the FreeWebSubmission to submit multiple search engine sites), directory sites, do follow blogs, RSS feed reader and more.
  5. Optimize your blog with Feedburner : There are lots of function inside Feedburner, optimize and use them very well, it surely helps.

Remember, when you have a blog and your objective is to earn profit from your blog, the first thing you must take note inside your mind is:

  1. Gain traffic, pagerank, and blog ranking first.
  2. Then make money

Installing ads when you first set up your blog won’t give your first dollar, and in fact, this is what most failure did. Motivate yourself to gain more web traffics first.

B+C : Keep Blogging and Start Earning Money

After months of blogging with blog updates from your blog schedule (I assume you must now have Pagerank minimum of PR1 and Alexa rank below 5,000,000. Then now is time to earn side income from your blogging effort. But how to make money from blogging? Here’s I may list out what most value for money making bloggers:

  1. Google Adsense, or other related ads style.
  2. Selling links on your blog.
  3. Chitika or other related ads style.
  4. Infolinks, Kontera or other related ads style.
  5. Sell Advertising space on you blog / direct advertising.
  6. Directly sell products/services on your blog.

In order to make sure you success in making money via blogging, you must only focus on certain blog money making. You must probably think that subscribing with all money making methods above will give you better and higher earning, but you’re wrong! If you’re about to use Google Adsense, then focus on Google Adsense, and make sure to keep blogging. Use Google and find out ways to optimize your blog money making, and keep on blogging.

Money making from blog does not mean it will provide a continuous lump sump of earning. Instead, it will be increasing slowly. You maybe earned USD5.00 for your first month, but keep on blogging and optimizing your blog, then after a while, you’ll get paid off every of efforts you’ve made since from the beginnning. I’ve taken a year to earn continuos earning from blogging, and I am sure you can do a lot better, faster, easier than me.

Noted that you must balance your life with the world of blogging and must have schedule on what time spent in front of computer, blogging. It’s the best way to enjoy life given to us. Till now, cheers!

Very nice instruction on how to start a blog. However, IMHO, Google Analytics provides free more statistics as compared to Sitemeter. As an addition, installing too many widgets as in number 7, may increase blog load time.

So long as you put out good content then it shouldn’t matter whether it’s for money. Blogs in general are free to read so the reader is already ahead of the game I think. And probably most of us who have made a few dollars still aren’t making much of an hourly wage when you look at how much time goes into a quality site (I hope people think mine is quality).

A lot of useful information here. However, I have to agree with most of the folks here. I have the free version of sitemeter but it doesn’t seem to offer much information. I’ll have to give Google Analytics a try and see what happens.

Have a great day!
