It was really out of sudden, unlikely to be happen that my software crashes and I have no other way but to refresh all of my laptop with new Windows installation. With this situation, it may took time for me to recover my PC, and I am having a hard time recovering all the data, backups as possible. Instead of software crashing, my PC also were full of trojans and viruses, majority comes from my little brother’s external drive. Gosh! I don’t know what the best Antivirus for me. I’m using Symantec 2008 by the way. Got original Bitdefender 2008 but never open the pack yet. Huhu~

Okay, how do I backup and restore emails and profiles in my Thunderbird?

Fortunately, when I decide to backup my emails (I used Mozilla Thunderbird to handle my mails), I found an interesting software to backup all of my emails. I’ve tried using MozBackup before this, but when I tried to restored them, all of my email inbox were gone, leaving my email account restored only . It was kind a frustrated, so I searched for the solution found this great simple software: Argentum™ Backup

For your information, all of your emails and profile were saved in:

  • Windows XP, 2000, 2003 – C:\Documents and Settings\[userName]\Application Data\Thunderbird
  • Windows Vista – C:\Users\[userName]\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird
  • Mac OS X – ~/Library/Thunderbird
  • Linux/UNIX – ~/.thunderbird
  • Windows NT – C:\WINNT\Profiles\[userName]\Application Data\Thunderbird

Argentum™ Backup simply backup all the data on the directory, convert all the backups into the ZIP files, and saved it in the selected directory. It’s a simple software. It’s a 15-days trial but I’m really sure you won’t mind as you’ll keep using it once. The other time you format your pc, you’ll be able to use the software again.

After having your email backup, you’ll be able to manually or using the software again to restore. Simply paste the backup files into the given directory, if you choose to restore them manually. Automatic backup should be working fine with few clicks away.

(P/S: Another great alternative for Thunderbird backup – Mozbackup)

You can download the Argentum™ Backup software here :

Since we all know where the emails and profile were saved, why don’t we, our self, back it up incrementally, by archiving it using any free archive utility.

Or, to make the task become simpler, use SyncToy powertoy from Microsoft. The free SyncToy can help you synchronize, copy, backup and maintain folders of files on your computers.
